The act of taking these images offers me a sense of calm. It gives me a moment to focus on the beauty amidst the chaos. I aim for the viewer to get this same feeling of stillness and presence while viewing or engaging with the work. Photographs are remnants of light and time. These are not only essential to photography but also to life itself, and the starting point and inspiration for most of my work. While the world becomes more and more overstimulating due to the fast pace of our daily life, I want my art to be a break from this new normal. That’s why the final form of my work is always physical. This can be a book, a print, or an installation. time can bring peace of mind. With my work, I aim to create moments of calm amid the fleeting and often overwhelming pace of life. As the world becomes more overstimulating, I want this book to offer a pause from this new normal. Time is one of the most fundamental aspects of our everyday experience. Since ancient times, we have measured it through the positions of the sun, and the other stars. Light and time are inextricably linked and photography captures remnants of both. By using photography as my primary medium and combining it with different techniques I emphasize the presence of light and time in each image. Some of these methods include: burning negatives with sunlight and long exposures, capturing astronomical objects that have different light speeds, creating double exposures, and documenting shadows. This book is an homage to natural light as a way to visualize the value of time in our day-to-day lives. way to highlight light and time in an image is by painting or drawing. While doing so the possibilities are endless and you can make the sunrays and shadows stand out even more. I collaborated with illustrator Bobbie Bennis and she illustrated some lino cuts that are based on my photographs. Those images can be found in the book. The sundial is one of the earliest ways of measuring time and dividing your day into different hours. It uses the rotation of the earth together with light and shadow. The use of sundials and a world in which time moved slower have become ruins. Nowadays, people place them in gardens and homes for aesthetic purposes, and we use minutes and seconds to keep up with the fast paste. The sun and the sundial can act as a visual reminder of the fragility and preciousness of time in everyday life. <img width="4950" height="3639" width_o="4950" height_o="3639"
